Durex Nigeria Records 37.4 Million Impressions with Detty December Campaign in Lagos
Brand achieves 10.9 million reach and over 282,000 engagements by embedding sexual wellness message in festive Lagos events
Brand achieves 10.9 million reach and over 282,000 engagements by embedding sexual wellness message in festive Lagos events
Durex Nigeria achieved a major milestone during the December festive season in Lagos, recording 37.4 million impressions through an innovative cultural marketing campaign. The campaign, which ran across Pulse Fiesta, South Social, and Love in the Boulevard events, was executed throughout December 2025 and reached over 10.9 million people with more than 282,400 direct engagements.
Unlike previous years where brands focused on event sponsorships and billboards to gain visibility during Detty December, Durex Nigeria adopted a different strategy by integrating its message into social experiences where young Nigerians were already active. The campaign centred on raising awareness around the ‘orgasm gap’—the disparity in sexual satisfaction between men and women—and introduced Durex’s Mutual Climax condom variant to address this issue.
The campaign’s organisers said they designed each activation to fit the unique atmosphere of the various Lagos events. At Pulse Fiesta, the focus was large-scale brand awareness. South Social featured interactive elements such as the Durex Kissing Booth to encourage direct engagement, while Love in the Boulevard created space for conversations on intimacy and anticipation. According to peer-reviewed studies cited by campaign strategists, women report lower orgasm rates compared to men due to a mix of biological, behavioural, and cultural factors.
Rather than leading with product claims, Durex placed discussions about attraction and relationships at the heart of environments where such themes are already popular among young adults. Marketing experts say this approach reflects a wider shift among Nigerian consumers—especially youth—who now prefer brands that participate authentically in their cultural experiences instead of interrupting them with standard advertising.
As competition for consumer attention intensifies during high-traffic periods like Detty December, industry analysts believe campaigns that prioritise cultural relevance over visibility may become more effective. Stakeholders note that brands looking to stand out must find credible ways to connect their message to real consumer needs within their environment.

New minority leadership unveiled on Thursday as South-South gains strategic slot; opposition parties expected to respond to appointments
The House of Representatives on Thursday announced its new minority leadership, naming a lawmaker from Bayelsa State as the Minority Leader during a plenary session at the National Assembly complex in Abuja. The announcement marks a significant development for South-South representation within the current legislative cycle.
Details of how the selection unfolded were not immediately disclosed during the session, but the decision was confirmed by presiding officers who read out the list of new minority leaders on the floor. The appointment is seen as part of ongoing efforts to balance political interests and regional representation in Nigeria’s lower legislative chamber.
The unveiling of a Bayelsa representative for this key post comes at a time when opposition parties are seeking to assert greater influence within the House. Minority leadership positions play a crucial role in shaping debate and holding government accountable, especially given Nigeria’s dynamic multiparty landscape.
Official statements regarding the selection process were yet to be released as at press time. However, party chieftains from opposition blocs are expected to make their positions known in coming days, particularly on how these appointments reflect internal party agreements and regional equity. Stakeholders have long called for broader inclusion across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
With new minority leaders now named, attention will shift to how these changes affect legislative priorities and negotiations with the majority All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus. Political observers say this development could set the tone for future debates on national policy, resource allocation, and oversight responsibilities during this Assembly’s tenure.

DSS, Army Thwart Kidnap Plot Targeting WAEC Students in Enugu, Anambra and Imo States
Security agencies recover arms, NYSC uniforms and arrest suspects linked to planned attacks on examination centres
Security agencies recover arms, NYSC uniforms and arrest suspects linked to planned attacks on examination centres
Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and soldiers from the Nigerian Army have foiled a coordinated attempt to kidnap students writing the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in parts of Enugu, Anambra and Imo states. The operation took place on Wednesday, following credible intelligence about the planned abductions by members of the proscribed Eastern Security Network (ESN).
According to a statement released by the DSS on Thursday, security agents raided an ESN armoury located in the Agbani axis of Enugu State. The statement said intelligence revealed that ESN members intended to disguise themselves in National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) uniforms while launching attacks on selected schools during the WASSCE period. During the raid, security operatives recovered eight AK-47 rifles, 12 AK-47 magazines, 323 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a smoke grenade launcher, two teargas canisters, as well as NYSC clothing items including trousers, T-shirts and lanyards.
The DSS noted that the motive behind the planned attack was to create panic and give an impression that bandits had infiltrated the South-East region. The targeted schools were identified across multiple locations in Enugu, Anambra and Imo states. Security operatives also confirmed that several suspects were arrested during the operation.
Further operations continued on Tuesday in the Garki area of Enugu State where another ESN armoury was raided. This led to additional recoveries including a rocket launcher, two rocket-propelled grenade warheads, three RPG chargers and three AK-47 rifles. Other items seized include six AK-47 magazines, two handheld grenades, a teargas gun with canisters, a baton and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
Security agencies have increased surveillance around examination centres in affected states as at Thursday. The DSS stated it will continue working with other security outfits to ensure safety for students sitting for national examinations across Nigeria’s South-East zone. No casualties were reported from these operations as at press time.

Reps Appoint Bayelsa Lawmaker as Minority Leader in Abuja Announcement
House leadership reveals new minority caucus team; opposition parties expected to respond to appointments in coming days
House leadership reveals new minority caucus team; opposition parties expected to respond to appointments in coming days
The House of Representatives on Thursday in Abuja named a Bayelsa State lawmaker as the new Minority Leader, unveiling the full minority leadership team at its plenary session. The announcement marks a significant development in the lower chamber’s leadership structure following recent deliberations among opposition parties.
During the plenary held at the National Assembly complex, Speaker of the House announced the appointments, confirming the Bayelsa lawmaker’s elevation alongside other opposition members who will form the core of the minority caucus. The changes are aimed at strengthening coordination among non-majority parties and enhancing their influence on legislative debates and oversight functions.
The appointment comes at a crucial moment for Nigeria’s political landscape, as intra-party negotiations and shifting alliances have heightened competition for key leadership roles within both chambers of the National Assembly. The new minority leadership is expected to play a pivotal role in articulating alternative policy positions and representing diverse interests from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
No official statement was immediately available from opposition party leaders reacting to the appointments. However, sources within the chamber indicated that some aggrieved lawmakers may contest aspects of the process or seek clarifications regarding portfolio allocations in subsequent sittings. The Speaker emphasised that all appointments were made in line with House rules and existing power-sharing agreements among recognised opposition blocs.
With these new appointments, attention will now turn to how the minority caucus will approach its legislative duties, including scrutiny of executive bills and collaboration with majority party counterparts. Political analysts believe that effective minority leadership could shape debate outcomes on critical national issues as the Tenth National Assembly continues its work.
